If you have ntfs you usually can not easily just convert. You have to copy off data.

Vista should have a way to re-size a partition. You may be able to move a bit at a time or all of it from a shrunken ntfs to a newly created fat.

NTFS-3G support is added for MacOSX.
Consider adding support for ntfs in apple.

That way you get the benefit of ntfs and can swap between.
