I have an HP Photosmart 7550 printer that is attached to a server running XP. I also have a wireless laptop running Vista that I am trying to connect through a wireless router to the server which is hard wired to the router. I can network to the server and see the printer there but when I double click on it I get the following error: "The server for the HP Photosmart 7550 printer does not have the correct printer driver installed" I have two other XP computers wired through the router that have no problem printing using the 7550 driver installed in the server. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, XP is not a server. You maybe using it to share files but that's it. There are two things to try. One is to open the printer folder on the XP box and click add printer. Point the machine to the XP machine and add the driver
OR
Click start, run, enter the IP address of the XP machine on the Vista box preceded by 2 back slashes and press enter.
\\192.168.1.100
When the printer share appears, open the printer folder on the Vista machine and drag the printer there.

Thanks for responding. I have tried both of these options but continue to get the same error message. All the computers have the latest drivers installed. The only one that is having the problems is the Vista laptop.

Get the printer drivers here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...

Then install them on the Vista machine The printer will try and pull the drivers from the XP machine that will not work on Vista.

Install the drivers and then do and add printer thing and tell it to use the Network printer rather than local.

That should do it.

I have tried all these ideas with no success. I keep getting the error message that an incorrect drinver for the HP 7550 is installed on the XP server to which the printer is connected. If anyone has any other ideas I would be greatly appreciative.

Disconnect your computer from the Server, install the drivers, reconnect and try again.

Thanks for helping me with this problem. I think I may be missing a step as the problem continues. Is there a step by step method to add the corrct driver on the correct Machine?

One of the things about an HP is they are a bitch to uninstall.

Get RevoUninstaller: http://www.download.com/Revo-Uninst...

and uninstall anything and everything to do with the printer. All photo software and stuff it comes with.

Then, use the cd or the file to install the printer. DO NOT plug the printer in until the software tells you to or you'll have to do it all over again.
