I have a cable modem that does not require a username/pw to connect to the internet. However, vista will only allow me a PPPoE option when trying to setup an internet connection? How can I just get the regular old LAN connection?

You do not setup an Internet Connection, that is already setup in the Cable Modem.

When you plug in the RJ45 cable Vista should detect and ask what type of network this is!
