Compatability with vista and printer

Specs: Windows Vista
OK I am not very savy but here goes.
here is all the gear.
HP laserjet 4200 into a belkin paralel port cable into a usb2.0 to parallel cable (true pnp and bi derectional). into a dell studio running Vista 64 bit.

Everything seems to be recognized but I get an error in the print que after printing. and document does not print. I do not know if it is the cable I used or not. I could not get it to print anything. the test print on the printer works but I cannot print a test page through windows vista.

For Vista 64-bit, all device drivers including printer driver must also be 64-bit. Is your printer driver 64-bit?

If it is, then I would suspect your method of connection. Adapters or adapter cables to convert parallel to usb can often give unpredictable results.

You might have better luck by fitting a parallel-port add-on PCI card to your PC, like these:
