HP & Compaq laptops have a reputation for developing wireless problems after a few years. It's a well-known issue with them. The wireless chip they fit is poor quality. Friends of mine who've been affected by this have been unable to bring it back to life and have had to buy a wireless USB adapter.

Some of them still had warranty period left so they returned the laptop to HP who fixed it with a new wireless chip or motherboard. If warranty has expired they don't want to know unless you pay, so a usb adapter is the cheaper option - much, much cheaper.

I recently had to do just that for my grandaughter after I tried unsuccessfully for days to revive the built-in wireless chip on her Compaq.

The wireless button becomes enabled up after I Exit the the recovery manager, so i dont think it is a hardware problem but the recovery process continues half way and then fails and now i have half an operating system and i cannot log on. The computer is HP COMPAQ PRESARIO CQ60 222EI

... guessing that you did'nt create the recovery disks(?)

... have you tried the <F11> <key> method? (click red)

Yes i am actually using the F11 method because I didn't create recovery disks. I didn't interfere with the recovery partition and the recovery manager works up to the points it is preparing software installation and shows this error message

Recovery attempt has failed. please select one of the following buttons[Details,Retry] to continue

when i click details it shows;
2:30:40:03]ChkErrBB.CMD: Detect some error during PININST_BBV
2:30:40:12]ChkErrBB.ed CMD:check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootwarm.log

I have recovered the operating system once successfully and I am still wondering if the disabled wireless button is contributing to this

... "okoth-phil J" you may well be right in what you're saying some "HP" posts show that even after using the recovery "disks" which some had purchased the problem persisted!

"...I have got past this problem now! What I did was after installation and the 2nd system recovery disk ejects reboot the computer and while when windows first boots back up press the WLAN button,(it should be blue) found out it has to be on in order to get past the drivers installation part, I am not at the software installation and had never made it this far til now so im sure that was the fix, good luck!..."

"...I have recovered the operating system once successfully..."

... it's still worth "creating the recovery disks"
