compaq presario will not start up

power on it goes straight to black screen with white compaq in middle, and controls on the bottom. no buttons work except esc. then goes to black screen with white text, giving computer info., and goes no where from here. please help

Please provide more info - what is the actual text you see. What happens with the ESC key pressed, since it is the only one that works. What is your computer's specs, etc.
