Compaq CQ50 factory restore, back to Vista

February 3, 2011 at 15:02:23
Specs: Windows Vista
Ok, when you do the F11 thing before the thing gets on it goes to a screen that says SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 6: SAMSUNG HM250JI-(S3) Then it says WARNING: Immediately back-up data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. Then it drops down and says: F1 Ignore. But when you hit F1 nothing happens. You can get it to go to another screen when you hit F2 but nothing happens in that screen either. What on earth do I do??? Can someone help?

Your hard drive is in the last throws of death. If you have important data on it, stop turning the computer on and off trying to start it up. The hard drive needs replaced, the operating system re-installed and your data put back on a new hard drive. If you do not have the means and know how to get the data off the drive you may wish to have some one else do it, but the more you turn the computer on and off the worse your chances of getting all your data.

if the drive is still working a program such as Pc files inspector or Recuva (both free) may assist in retrieving your data if it does not transfer over nicely. The drive will need to be taken out and slaved to another machine via usb or sata or whatever to get your data.
