Why do you need to configure com ports on the machine & what does your material say to do?

If the HP Pavillion has Com Ports then Vista will allocate IRQ's etc.. COM Port 1 to 4 are the standard, whilst Com Port 5 and up are used for PCI Analog Modems as Virtual Ports.

OK, thanks. I have an application that will use a COM port to configure cellular phones, but the program says that the COM port is in use by another application, I wasn't able to find the way to configure this the way XP does, so I've uninstalled the vista and Istalled XP instead... so Vista was not good for me...
thanks
