Specs: Windows Vista
I replaced the motherboard with a MSI G41TM-E43, and processor with an Intel E6500. When I start up I get a system configuration error, code purple.

You have to reinstall the OS. Guess you didn't know you could not swap boards without doing so. None of the drivers presently installed on the hard drive can address the new mainboard.

If you are using the HP OEM OS, you won't be able to use it on the new board.
That OS is tied to the HP board and not transferable, not to mention a different set of drivers is needed and if you could install it, it would fail activation.
You will have to buy a new OS.
