Checkdisk not running

Hello,
Vista is alerting me on a corrupt directory, so I scheduled a checkdisk to fix the problem. Unfortunately the check disk is not running on a reboot.
Any ideas what I need to do to get my notebook to run it.

You can try it via the Recovery Console & see if that works. You can also try typing chkdsk c: /r in the run menu field, hit OK, then print Y for the test to run at the next boot.

I am having the same trouble; it keeps telling me there's a dirty disk but will not allow scan disk to complete its run and self-repair. It exits out about 1/3 of the way through a full disk check without completing. It does go on to load Windows VISTA, but it wants to run chkdisk each time I boot up.
I have a Compaq Presario, by the way, that I purchased only 5 months ago.
Could it have come with a hard disk that was bad already? It seems inconceivable that it would be damaged this soon, though I have also had memory issues and had to add more RAM.
