I have a game that wants me to set up the sound card for it, but it will accept only IRQs upt o maximum 15. Vista set my sound card on IRQ 22. How do I change this IRQ?

You already asked this question HERE and it was correctly answered with It does sound to me like the game is older and doesn't recognize features of newer Operating Systems.

Curiously why haven't you follow up with your original thread?

The question is, is the game compatable with VISTA ?? If you need to specify the IRQ then the game is probably MS-DOS based, so come on what is this game ??

I know what my game does NOT do. I was simply asking if there is a way to change an IRQ for a device under Vista or people beter uninstall it and forget it. It was that simple. Your answer seems to be either "No" or "I don't know"

Santa, the game works great under Vista, without sound. And it's called "Super Mario World". My daughter and her cousin adores it!

You were already given the correct answer by the moderator at Tweaks.com. What more do you want to hear?

Berton sent me some links where people are talking about ISA, PCi, IRQs and this kind of stuff. Now, it happens that I know what these are. Anyhow, I thanked him for his well intentioned effort to help me.

My question was VERY simple: can somebody change an IRQ for a device under Vista, yes or no, and if Yes, how? After all this exchange of messages between us, it looks like there is NO way to change that IRQ under the told Vista. So, now I know that when our conversation will be over, I will throw Vista away - good for nothing and resource eater.

Not a problem at all. Starting with W2K, IRQs became IRQ Sharing by the OS itself which is why it's best to let Windows handle the IRQs on its own.

Otherwise the whole Windows will collapse if you try to change any of the IRQ settings on your own. For a general description of IRQ Sharing, read the following:

See Swiper's last couple of comments. BTW that thread relates to XP & not Vista.

AFAIK it is a MS-DOS based game and was not designed to run under Vista, maybe could run under DOSBOX

DOSBOX will make no difference as far as IRQ sharing is concerned.

Yes but the games software is obviously MS-DOS or MS-DOS based, so IRQ sharing is a red herring, it is trying to run old crap on new crap!!
