I have a dell dimension e310. A few days ago my cd-rom stopped working. It shows that there is content on the disc and it shows the correct amount. But when i explore the disc or try to open it nothing shows up on the drive. It must be a software problem because i replaced the drive as well as the SATA cable with no changes. I checked the device manager and there is nothing missing and there were no obvious conflicts. What could be the problem? Any idea's? Thanks in advance.
Boot to live linux cd and see what is going on. If works then you know it is xp somehow. If not then maybe controller?
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I'm pretty sure its XP since i changed the drive, cable and checked the BIOS. The drive shows up in my computer and even shows the disc label and size attributes. It just won't show anything when i open up the explorer. Any other ideas?
