Subject: CD-DVD drive disapears in Vista
OS: Vista Ultimate x64
CPU/Ram: Intel Dual core w/2 gig D
Model/Manufacturer: Custom
Comment:

I have one Lightscribe DVD burner, and I use Alcohol %120 as a virtual drive (the latest version).
Problem: when I reboot the PC, sometimes both drives disappear, and in device manager they are listed as having no drivers installed. I cannot uninstall Alcohol, as i get the message "adapter is locked". no restore procedures fix this.I can not use system restore, I cannot backup from an image file using windows backup. I can not do a clean install of vista, formatting the drive and then restoring a image backup, this too fails!(it installs but still no drives listed!)
This is all new hardware. I am stumped, as this defies all logic. Please help!

I can only assume the registry setting in Vista is the same as Vista beta:

Missing CD/DVD Rom

I never had to do the above with Win XP, however I can tell you that versions of Nero older than 7.7.5.1 are not Vista compatible. I just installed Nero 7 Ultimate on a friend’s new Vista laptop and had to upgrade to 7.7.5.1. Part of the upgrade process is to remove ver 7. Just a word of note, if you do upgrade, you can download the nero 7 trial which is Vista compatible, then enter "your" ver 7 key code. That saves one step. You cannot use a ver 6 code.

I can say that no filters exist in this key whatsoever. However, I have since replaced my DVD drive with an identical one with a newer firmware flash...perhaps this prevented the installation of filters at all? it's a lite-on Lightscribe drive, brand new
