CD Rom only reads first song on CDs ...

Hewlett-packard / Pavillion dv6000

Specs: Windows Vista
After a recent hardware problem the shop re-installed my Vista ... since I am unable to play music Cds or rip them. All softwares simply see the first song and then skip over the others very quickly without playing them. I didn't have this before the re-install ... I'm assuming that this is some sort of config issue due to the copy protection of the CDs ... does anyone know how to undo this?

I would say if it is under warranty return the item to the shop and complain..there is no reason why a "fix" they provided should break anything....

Edit: If you have just taken it to a shop to be repaired, and you KNOW that the DVD/CD drive was working before then they HAVE to replace/repair the additonal damage

This is not a hardware problem, I tired with another DVD ROm and had the same problem. This appears to be a software problem ... I have seen other posts saying that they also saw problems of reading only the first minute of the first song, but I never saw a solution to it.

But was the DVD drive working before you took it to the shop

If it was, and when you got it back after they re-installed vista then logically they either broke it, or failed to configure it properly and did not check it

Either way, it should have been working when you got it and it is bad practise for them not to test it.

But, if you want to give it a shot the best way to check if it is a configuration error would to be to go to HP's website and check for any drivers/tweaks they provide.

If the drivers are already installed, or they make no difference then it may be worth going into device manager and checking that windows reports that the drive is OK, and that the region settings are accurate (weird things can happen if they are wrong)
