OS: Vista Ultimate
CPU/Ram: Intel dual core 2.4.Mhz,
Product: Biult
Comment:

Using WMP 11 in Vista, I can play DVD video, and have audio.

I have audio with any streaming content.

When I play an audio CD, I have no sound. If I toggle error correction on/off I hear a short burst of sound.

MB = Intel DG 965RY, has all the latest drivers, BIOS, IDT audio driver loaded by Vista (NOT Sigmatel drivers).

DVD RAM is LG, with the latest firmware (IDE, and is the only IDE device in the system, set to master).

Tried a new Asus DRW 1814 lightscribe drive, wont play DVD video or CD sound, WMP hangs.

Error code 11 in the logs.

Booting with XP Pro all is fine.

Any ideas?

W

If I understand you correctly, you system has a chip set in the mother board. If you have the money, a Vista compatible sound card may solve all those problems.

I run my sound card through my stereo system. Nothing beats that sound.

Thanks, - I have a built in Sigmatel chip, - but the issue is the sound works for everything except CD, - not sure if a sound card would do it, - but I may try it, - its cheaper than throwing the PC out the window!

I have the same model motherboard and 2 LG DVD burners and don't have any problems.
Have you checked in the volume mixer that the cd sound is turned on after inserting the cd?

Is there a separate CD sound volume control someplace? I use the soundcard and WMP 11 controls..

When you click on the speaker icon the popup shows Mixer text at the bottom, clicking on that opens a panel with any active programs requiring sound.
A red circle with bar on any device indicates that sound is muted for that device, click on it to activate sound.
