Can't slter partition sizes

I'm using a seagate 7200.11 sata drive. It's a 500gb one, and i have two partitions on it. C and D. ~273gb on C, and ~200gb on D. I woudl liek to unallocate around ~50gb from C, and put it on D. BUT, i can't shrink the vista (C) partition :( I have tried GParted (live CD thing) also the built in one on vista, but both are fruitless. Cheers for any help.

Might there be too much on the C drive?
What error's do you get?
The Vista one is good enough. Gparted should work also.
I guess a bad partition table or faulty file system might do that. Try chkdsk and also clean up system. Defrag too.

I have around100GB of free space on C, and 12GB on D, so i have lots of space to play with. I'll try running chkdsk later when i can leave it to do it, becuase it'll take an hour or so. Thanks
