Can't open word

When I try to open a word doc, I get a 'preparing to install' Windowns Installer pop-up. Then I'm told it can't install ('This update package could not be opened ...') This happened for the first time when attempting to open an email attachment yesterday, so I'm wondering whether this is a (/my first ever) virus. What should I do ?!

one or more files are missing from instalation files, Insert the CD and install office again this will fix this problem. in relation to finding and fixing a virus install a or check you AVS ("Anti Virus Softwear") and scan for viruses

If you are using Office 2003, also be aware that you have to be connected to the internet to activate the product.

Summary: Thanks for the quick response but as I'm a complete novice the link is as clear as mud to me I'm afraid. I can operate Incredimail but yet I can't open Internet Explorer or any of the Office programs...
