can't make .wmv default to Windows Media Play

Specs: Windows Vista, 3.166 GHz / 4093 MB
Everytime I receive an attachment for a .wmv file, it always defaults to Nero Showtime Essentials. I go to my Default Programs icon in the Control Panel and change it to Windows Media Player. It changes accordingly. The next time I get another .wmv file, I have to do this all over again. Why doesn't it remain defaulted to Windows Media Player instead of the Nero program? In other words, how can I make this change permanently?

OS: Windows Vista 64/Ubuntu 8.04 64

There are only 2 ways I can think of around this

1) Go into Nero Showtime, and in the options (somewhere, dont have the app unfortunatly) un-tick any associations the program may have

2) Go into windows media player, and in the options tell it to be the default media player for media files

Hope this helps!
