I just downloaded the Laff-A-Lympics series which is in AVI, and when I play it I can't hear the audio. I've tried playing it in several media players. No audio in WMP 11, VLC 0.9.8a, Creative MediaSource 5, or Quicktime 7.6. When I play it with Nero 9 Showtime I get the full audio but thie video plays in fast forward. In the bottom left of the nero player it says mp3. I can also hear some aduio if I play it with VideoSpin and the video is in sinc, but it only plays for the first minute or so. I don't understad the problem. Please Help?

Try downloading K-lite Codec Pack. You can get it here..
http://www.codecguide.com/download_...
Once installed right click the file and open with Media Player Classic.

Download and Run "gspot V2.70a" from here:
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

This should tell you exactly which codec you need to run your file, rather than installing a whole wadge of them. You will then need to find the suggested codec using Google.

The instructions are here:
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x...

I don't think gspot is a zip file any more so you might have to ignore the first instruction. See also the bit about audio. It should play in WMP.

These are the results

File Length Correct
AVI v1.0, "rec list" style
Interleave: 75 vid frames (2503 ms)
Audio frames: Aligned on interleaves
Video: 123 MB (90.99%)
Audio: 10.1 MB (7.47%)
AVI Overhead: 2.07 MB (1.54%)

It says that all the codec(s)are installed for the video and the audio.

It says the audio codec is 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3

The Video Codec is MP42 Name S-Mpeg 4 version 2

In the proposed codec solutions and tests
I hit the buttons 123 on video and audio and got these two errors

In GSpot
Failed to creat instance of DMO filter Mpeg4 Decoder DMO. Error. 0x8004002: (unknown)

In MS
It says Render OK. The following combination of filters was used:
(Src)-->>--(A)-->[Avi Splitter ]>--(B)-->[ffdshow Video Decoder ]>--(C)-->[Video Renderer ]
(Src)-->>--(A)-->[Avi Splitter ]>--(B)-->[ffdshow Video Decoder ]>--(C)-->[Default DirectSound Device ]

The problem remains. This is frustrating :{.

What else have you got?

What do other avi files play like?
Have you tried copying the files in question and play them on another computer?
I ask this because if other files play without problems, and if you can't play the problem files on another computer, then its possible the files could be corrupt.

Good suggestion in #6.

Pity about gspot, that's my high hopes dashed....

Nothing lost by typing dxdiag in the Search box and running dxdiag.exe against the unlikely possibility that there are errors showing in that area.

I'm low on other ideas and hope it is not conflicting codecs, as these can be a pain to sort out.
