Several days ago, my computer was running fine. Now, something's wrong! For some reason, I cannot download ANY files, pictures, programs, etc. from the internet onto my computer. This is what happens. I click the file to download. The download box appears, and I choose where I want the file saved. I click OK. The download progress box opens, and almost immediately closes. The file appears to have downloaded, however, it is nowhere to be found on the computer. If I open the documents folder in the start menu and view recently accessed files, the name of the file I tried to download can be seen, however, when I click on the name, I am informed that the file cannot be found and given the option to browse for it. I have run several virus scans, and come up with nothing. HP directed me to "reset" internet explorer which did not solve the problem. Their next step is to have me use my restore disks, which I think is extreme. System restore is not an option, as it is my wife's computer, and she never turned this feature on. Please help!!!

As I mentioned in your other thread, Windows Vista System Restore is enabled by default. Are you certain she turned it off on purpose?

Have you tried downloading using a different browser? I've come across a similar problem with an XP system that had the same symptoms using IE, tried Firefox, just for downloads, & no problems. I suspect it was the security settings but didn't have time to track it down & as the 'fix' worked client was happy.
