Subject: Can't delete unwanted dll file OS: Vista Home PremiumCPU/Ram: T7700 @ 2.4 gHZ / 3GB Model/Manufacturer: Dell Inspiron 1720 |
Comment: I deleted WinRAR a few months ago however I can't delete < RarExt.dll >. On my context menu all of the options for WinRAR ( archiving, emailing etc ) are still there too. Also, whilst trying ways to delete the file I removed it from it's original folder (folder now deleted) and placed it on my desktop and now it is stuck there. Maybe the following might be of use in solving my prob..Using a program called "System Info" (Gabriel Topala) it showed reference to the original WinRAR program at this location.. HKCR\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\WinRAR Thanks in advance for any much needed help.

Reply: (edit)That is a registry entry. Edit using admin. Open command prompt with run as admin. Use command delete from you desktop. May have to start in safe mode or even live cd. Some dll's are real stinkers. "Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the replies. I tried the "easiest" option first and that enabled me to delete the files off my context menu..thank you Razor2.3 for that;)..however, the rogue dll is still stuck firm to my desktop and it won't allow me to even move it let alone delete it..grrr. Jefro...what is the actual command I need to type from in cmd? My apologies for being a noob, haven't edited my registry before:( EDIT: jefro, no need to reply to my question above. I managed to delete it from within safe mode. Thanks very much for all the help!
