Hi there,
I have a tiny problem and can't find help for it anywhere. I'm hoping one of you wizards knows.
I have a folder in "Program Files" called "Windows Collaboration" (for that program, I'm assuming). All I want to do is HIDE it, like I hid hundreds of other pre-installed Windows folders in "Program Files". But this one is being stubborn.
When I right-click the folder > properties > tick hidden > apply changes to this folder only > continue (user account control) > I get this ...
"An error occurred applying attributes to the file:
C:\Program Files\Windows Collaboration
Access is denied.
Ignore. Ignore All. Try Again. Cancel."
I can't get any further!
This is a really annoying little problem that I need to have go away, so any help would be appreciated!
Points to note:
SAFE MODE doesn't help.
I am logged as administrator, which makes it all the more frustrating.
I don't know of any other folders that act up like this. Please let me know what is going on!
All the best,
Marko

Try turning OFF the omnipresent UAC, but be advised of your machine's elevated vulnerability as a result of that decision.

Hi,
I tried disabling UAC but it didn't help.
When trying to change the folder's attributes I was giving UAC permission anyway, so I doubt it would make a difference if it was on or off.
Can anybody help me? This is the folder from hell. It, and every file in it, is impossible. All I want to do is HIDE the thing, not even delete it.
All the best,
Marko

Hi again - it's alright. After about a week of trying, I've tampered with some of the folder settings and figured it out.
If anyone else has this problem, let me know and I'll tell them how I did it.
Cheers again!
Marko

I am sure besides UAC, the next thing he must have done was modify the permission for the folder(s) he was having problems with -- most likely -- by replacing the ownership on those objects.

Yes that's the routine we normally take but I thought PirateLeChuck23 may have discovered some unorthodox solution or maybe not LOL

One would also have thought that having discovered the solution he would share it instead of asking correspondents to contact him for the answer... that is the object of these pages isn't it?
Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

Hey,
For those of you who still care, yes basically I tampered with all the permissions and such and managed to allow the folder to be hidden.
Marko
