Cant access internet..!

Hello all, I am stuck somewhere with Vista. The other day I got my desktop installed with Vista. I am trying to connect to internet using external wireless modem. I cant have access to interet due to 169 ip address. (which ISP says to be invalid) When check Network and Sharing centre in Control Panel it shows limited next to IpV4 and IpV6. I am sure my modem and the ethernet cable works fine as I also have checked with my XP laptop. My internet works without any problems there. Can anyone help me what could be causing the problem? Link lights at the back of modem and desktop are fine..if this helps Networkid "Try more achieve more"
