cannot uninstall vista service pack 1

May 27, 2009 at 07:13:33
Specs: Windows Vista, quad core/3gb

I have vista 32 bit i installed service pack 1 a while ago. I am trying to install vista service pack 2
It wont let me install

An error message says no such interface supported.

Then i try to uninstall and reinstall vista service pack 1

Halfway through it, it says an error has occurred . Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled

Right now my vista says it has service pack 1 .but after i tried to uninstall vista sp1, when i try to install vista sp2, it says you need vista sp1.i

Is there any way to fix this problem? Is there any way to force vista to install sp1 again?

please help

Do you use Windows Update or Standalone installer to install the service pack 2 ?

" An error message says no such interface supported. " What interface is meant here ? Why do you try to uninstall SP1 when it is a deadly requirement for SP2 ?

Have you altered and made changes in any system files such as Shell32.dll file in an attempt to change boot-up image or the behavior of Taskbar ?

i have a dell vista thats a couple years old
i have "dell reinstallation dvd windows 32bit windows vista home premium " disc

i installed to vista sp 1 when it came out. everything was fine. months after that my computer got messed up a while ago. for some reason i couldnt install certain updates after i got messed up i tried to fix things, it got almost back to normal but i couldnt install certain updates.

i tried to install vista SP2 a few days ago when it came out., i couldnt do it. i tried to uninstall sp1 and then reinstall it ,but during the uninstall, sp1 only was removed halfway. now when i try to reinstall sp1, it says sp1 is already installed.
but when i try to install sp2, it says sp1 needs to be installed first

i tried to use a registry cleaner and i removed important data.. now i lost my main profile( windows considers it corrupt)( i copied most of the settings from that profile to another but still its hard to install things. and i still cant install vista sp2

i tried system restore no avail.

is there any way to reinstall vista using this disc without losing any programs ( meaning i dont want to wipe my computer clean and start all over if i can help it)

i know i will probably need to do a full restore of vista and start all over aftr backing up files, but for now i want to know my options that i have.
can anyone help me?

... from one of the above links:

To uninstall vista SP1 by using the command line

1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window (click Start, type command in the Start Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator).

2. Run the following command (assuming that Windows6.0-KB936330.exe is in the C:\temp folder): C:\temp\Windows6.0-KB936330-X86.exe /x:C:\temp

3. To create a sandbox (a virtual environment), type md <sandbox>.

4. To remove SP1, type start /w pkgmgr.exe /m:c:\temp\Windows6.0-KB936330-X86.cab /up /s:<sandbox>.

5. After Pkgmgr.exe completes, you will be prompted to restart the computer (unless you specified the /quiet command with Pkgmgr.exe).

What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?

... "matvangogh" I believe the above file was just used as an example!

"...have a recovery drive ( d:

... it should give you warnings as you boot-up with it... I think most of them wipe 'em to factory condition zapping your files and love letters in the process!

... you may be lucky... click red link in #Response4 have a look @ "System Recovery Option" image here to restore your computer from an earlier point in time!

... save your stuff on other media back it up!

... tap "F8" key @ boot-up repair your computer look @ the options "Figure 3. Windows Vista Setup option" click repair leading you to "Figure 9".....

If you're having problems installing the SP2 update, try one of
the fixes listed here:

http://windowsfixup.com/2009/05/win...

In particular, deleting the vLite
key has worked for a number of people.
