Comment: I have Vista on my PC and I cannot play .MID files either. Windows Media Player will play MP3 files and all kinds of other things but it won't play MIDI files. Based on an old post - I cannot find anything called MPLAYER on my PC using search and typing it into RUN does not work for the same reason. I tried using VLC player and .mid extensions are not listed. I tried Winamp which usually works but it loaded it and it tried to play it but no sound came out. Windows Media Player loaded the file and displayed the error message that says no sound device installed. Is there a missing driver or something? I cannot find anythhing in Windows Help. Thank you Zoe

Reply: (edit)I do not have that problem on this machine. Why are you looking for MPLAYER: Isn't WMP the default player configured for playing midi files on your system? If you navigate through: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2821862762-2354459452-1376420288-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mid\OpenWithProgids What do you have on the right pane? .... WMP11.AssocFile.MIDI or something else? Also what type of sound hardware do you have .... integrated chip or a discrete card? Are the correct drivers installed?
