I cannot seem to install Flash onto my Laptop. I am running Windows Vista Business.

I have spent ages searching and all I can find is to unistall then reinstall. I have done this both on my account and on the built in administrator account. It still won't install.

I downloaded the stand alone installation so I could see where it was failing and it keeps failing when it is trying to register :

Registering: C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash 10a.ocx

And it gives me the error message :

Failed to install. For troubleshooting tips,
please see http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166

All that is on this site is to uninstall which I have done several times to no
avail.

I am getting really frustrated by this now. Can anyone help me?

Cheers,

Andy

Uninstall reinstall is NOT your only option:

Windows Vista installation failure

On some Windows Vista systems Flash Player may be installed, but will not display Flash content. In some cases updating to the latest Flash Player using the included utility can correct the User Account Control settings that cause this problem.

To run the utility, find your installed Flash folder:

* Right-click C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9d.exe
The letter changes with each Flash version, so may be "FlashUtilb.exe" or "FlashUtile.exe"
* Select "Run as Administrator"
* Follow the steps to complete the Flash Player installation
* Restart your computer

I was not able to get Flash working even with these suggestions. The Vista/IE7/Flash combination simply did not work for me. I tried several options. The only way I could get it to work was to either:

A) Run IE7 as Administrator every time I used IE, or
B) Turn off Vista UAC permanently.

Today I tried IE8rc1. Flash works great! No need to run as Admin.

If you are having Flash/Vista/IE7 issues, consider upgrading to IE8.
