Every time I boot my machine I lose any previous files edited/saved. I cannot use system restore as a) non exist and b) despite me making some file changes and then creating a system restore point and the system displaying all the right responses, none are actually created. Should I be panicking now?

Do you mean that when you save files to the hard drive, those files are not there anymore when you reboot the machine ? What type of hard drive do you have ? I would definitely back up all of your data to an external drive or CDs/DVDs. I'm not sure how that would be related to system restore, but it is a strange problem.

That's right. No new or edited files are saved upon reboot. It is as if the system reverts to a previous state upon reboot.
Thanks for responding.
