Can not install Office 97 on Vista

During the install of Office 97 from my Cd an error message pops up: "outlcomm.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry." I am trying to install on an Acer Laptop. I had a similar problem awhile back when I wanted to install Office 97 on my desktop XP Pro. It was a matter of changing a filename in the registry. I am not that familiar with Vista, so am posting here for advice. Thanks.
