(5728 now open to public)
Microsoft has just released an updated version of Windows Vista to technical beta testers. Build 5728 is available in either x86 or x64 flavors right now on Microsoft Connect.x86

here are a couple articles on it.

I upgraded to 5728 and it seems to work OK with the exception of not being compatible with AVG and EZ-Anti-virus.

It works fine.
The upgrade path STILL doesn't work, but a full install works fine - 1 CD.
The posted link makes me wonder about the people runnning theinquirer.net

I uninstalled avg and installed avast.
on the vista download site it says "Installation notice: Users of Toshiba models M400, M4, and M5 should choose to do a clean install (not upgrade) of this build." and on some beta forums, people are listing some difficulties with this build. as with the other beta's.
something to do before attempting an upgrade
is uninstall any antivirus.
a lot of problems can happen when downloading an iso of this size, and when burning it as well. that was an issue with xp beta.

"Please note: This build may not have the same level of support or servicing via Windows Update, and you may not be able to upgrade to the final version of Windows Vista."
I think I will pass on this one......

I did a clean install of 5728 and it works great. I'm using it now. I don't know why people are saying it's broken.
