ok- I am trying to fix a friends computer - he said he has a virus- I brought it home and realized that he had hdmi video card and his onboard didn't work- I didn't have a cable so I inserted my own video card and it booted fine- I saw where it tried to install the driver "found new hardware" but it never really finished. I disabled startup items and rebooted and it went to blue screen. I rebooted into safe mode and again- blue screen. I get the 0x00000074 message that says bad configuration. I feel certain that it's that video card (which I removed and enabled onboard video in the bios). I tried poppin in my vista cd to do a repair but it finds no os (he has vista ultimate- and my cd is premium). It shows no restore points, it does show missing bootmgr and I did do a bootrec /rebuldbcd at the prompt but it didn't fix the problem.

Question- I really think it's the video card driver that was trying to install- is there a way to rollback the driver (I can't access windows to roll it back) any other way- any other input on this problem?

I really can't afford to format and reinstall so please help me
