both CD-roms not working

Hi, i have a cd-rw and a dvd-rw and they are both not working. When i go into my computer they are not there and when when i go to the device manager it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" for both of them. I have a lite-on and a sony drive. When i insert a bootable CD, it works before windows starts. so i dont think anything is wrong with the drives themselves. any suggestions would help. thanks.

Since you are not likely to brick the machine as a result of this fix - I'd say try it, what have you got to lose. But do create a restore point all the same. It is kinda strange you are getting the problem with both drives.
