Grab your Vista DVD & run a "Startup Repair."

- Pop the disc in your DVD drive & restart the machine with the disc still in the drive.

- If your system is setup to boot from your optical (CD/DVD) drive, you'll get a prompt asking you to "Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD."

- Follow that prompt.

- On the next screen, you should have a "Repair your computer" option, choose that option.

- The "Recovery Tool" screen after that will have a few entries: select "Startup Repair" from this list & let the machine take it from there.

it's not my laptop [I'm asking for someone else] but could it be that it is the laptop that's had it altogether or do you think it's a windows vista prob?
It's only a few weeks old.
Are Toshiba any good?

The problem is more of a software related issue that the brand. It could happen on any machine: desktops; laptops ... regardless of the manufacturer.

The Product Recovery CD didn't work and it said 'Files Corrupted' does this mean that it is malware that has 'destroyed' the laptop?
