Hi,
I keep getting a "bootmgr missing press ctrl-alt-del to restart" message when i start my computer. I've tried the vista repair thing for the dvd but it won't recognize my hard drive as the drive with the OS. I ran chkdsk on it and it got rid of some of the corrupted files but still no boot. I'm on xp right now and i can't see any of the files on the other hard drive so i can't backup my files. I have show hidden files on. Does anyone know how to fix the error or how i can backup my files? Thank you for reading this!

Did you try a startup repair?

The Vista DVD can be used to boot your system as a live cd. You can use others such as knoppix, ubuntu solaris. The problem is if your xp and vista doesn't see the drive then you have to fix that.

Start at bios. Is the drive shown?

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

the drive is shown but it doesn't detect it as a drive with an OS. I tried the startup repair but it wouldn't recognize any of the hard drives

"...the drive is shown but it doesn't detect it as a drive with an OS..."

... so it does see the drive?

... can you navigate to the Vista drive
by booting off the CD\DVD?

ie... if you type C: [PRESS ENTER]

... OR E: [ENTER]

... do you see anything when you type:

... DIR [ENTER] ..??

...please post back if you can

Grrrr
wat do I know?
