Boot XP from external HDD on vista laptop

Microsoft Windows vista home premium w/s...

Specs: Windows Vista Home Premium
I have an XP laptop which has a hardware
problem meaning I cant turn it on. I have taken
the HDD out, put it in an external caddy and
connected it to my vista home premium laptop
where I took ownership of files I wanted to
back up and copied them.

Now I want to be able to boot to XP on this
HDD. I can set the boot order to USB fine and
the windows loading logo appears briefly
before I get STOP 0x0000007
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103) .

I have run chkdsk, so I can only assume there
is a hardware boot problem. Is there a way to
copy/paste the hardware drivers etc from the
vista machine onto the XP hdd to enable me to
boot to it?

"...Now I want to be able to boot to XP on this HDD..."

... are both laptops the same?

... if you pop out (remove) the vista hd and pop in the xp one on its own it may bootup to a point untill xp recognises all the hardware changes ... could be an issue!
