Boot from XP disk in Vista

Specs: Windows Vista
To Mountain: I from the XP disk several times. Each time the "install XP" option was shadowed, meaning I can't activate it. Can I get around that or is there a fdisk that works in Vista. I want to go back to XP also.

Sorry, X86, I guess I didn't make it clear (I left out the word "booted" in my original message. To repeat, I can boot from the XP disk, but the install option is shadowed and not usable. I think I need to fdisk, but there is no fdisk in Vista. Ideas?
