Blue Screen of Death when saving to USB stick

Microsoft Office 2003 basic edition
November 20, 2009 at 11:14:47
Specs: Windows Vista

recently I started getting the blue screen whenever I try to save or save as a file to the USB memory stock. The device is fine as I have used it in other PCs and works OK. I can also copy a file from say the desktop to the USB device and it will do it happily. It just will not directly save or save as. And its usually an MS Office application like Word or excell that falls down. I googled to see if here are any solutions ou there but have not come up with anything. It may be a registry corruption issue . I don;t yet want to reformat and install again.

Anyone experineced anything similar? Any ideas what the problem might be?

But this is not an issue of damage to USB file structure by not safely remowing. As I said it does it with any USB stick attached, and also the USB sticks are perfectly well functioning on other PCs or laptops. Furthermore, I can copy files to teh USB stick. The problem is with saving or save as directly from Microsoft Office applications so far, liek excel or word. I need to check if it also does it with other save as tasks.
