Black screen after start up

Specs: Windows Vista
Yesterday I had a problem with my windows vista basic HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop, I would turn it on and it looked like it was going through the startup mode, then the screen went black, the comp was still on but no screen..under the safe mode I tried regedit.exe that was suggested by someone online..didn't work! I even downloaded the autoruns and serached for the problem there..didn't work, then I remembered that the last time I used my laptop, it said that I had new under the safe mode I did a system restore back before those updates..and it worked!! Ichecked to see what the updates were, and it was windows vista service pack 2 (KB948465) I'm no expert and computer talk is pretty alien to me, but it seems to me that the service pack may have caused the problem, it may have out dated something to cause the black screen problem..I'm hoping this info will be of use to the wizz's out there, cause as of now I'm not updating anything until someone can find a resolve to the black screen problem..thankyou

More likely that some other issue is wrong with your system but possible.
