Black bar on side and bottom of screen

August 6, 2009 at 15:07:32
Specs: Windows Vista

Hi,
I left my computer with my husband for a few weeks and came back to a screen with a black bar on the right side (about two inches of black) and a thin band of black on the bottom. It's as if the entire screen just got smaller and shifted up a little and over to the left. I can still see everything on the screen, but I can't do anything in these black areas. The black part on the bottom shows a white line when I put my mouse on the taskbar that extends down to the bottom of the screen, like a blur. Also, the windows logo in the bottom left is blurred downward so that there is a smeared blue streak going to the bottom of the screen. I've looked at the resolution to see if I can change it, but I haven't had any luck. I also did a system restore to see if he had downloaded something, and nothing changed. Any suggestions? I'm not very savvy, but can find my way around a computer with clear instructions. :) Thank you in advance!! Oh yes, my husband claims to know nothing of this problem. He says one day he just turned on the computer and it looked like this...I'm not sure if I believe him, but that's his story and he's sticking to it. ;)

this is exactly what i have got on hp 6720s. also, monitor connected to laptop will behave normally. also, you may notice that when you booting, the black part on right side is already ignored blank ie. no text shows there, it is like shrunk.

I have FIXED this problem by flashing BIOS. You need to search a tiny bit to find manufacturer's BIOS for your laptop model.. ..be careful about what you do, although it is really fairly simple.

good luck and have fun, have some sex with your husband
