"...When you first enable BitLocker, you are asked where you want to save the recovery password.

... Vista offers options of saving the recovery password on a USB disk, saving the password in a folder or printing the password.

"...BitLocker ensures that data stored on a computer running Windows Vista remains encrypted even if the computer is tampered with when the operating system is not running. This helps protect against "offline attacks," attacks made by disabling or circumventing the installed operating system, or made by physically removing the hard drive to attack the data separately..."

"...BitLocker uses a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) to provide enhanced protection for your data and to assure early boot component integrity. This helps protect your data from theft or unauthorized viewing by encrypting the entire Windows volume..."

... TPM chip... Trusted Platform Module... secure cryptoprocessor that can store cryptographic keys that protect information

... any chance of hooking up the drive to old m/board?

There is a problem with Graphics card on the dell notebook, that process already cross checked and no luck.

New motherboard replaced by dell.

I think there is no way for recovery of data.....?...but some solution will be there for this sort of issues...

... for Dell to replace the m/b without unlocking the system for you seems odd to me ... how long ago did they do this?

... "there are ways to bypass bitlocker".!!...

... can you provide email reference number and confirmation from Dell that this is bona fide?

... you can Private Message(PM) me
