bios auto booting not windows? ideas??

Specs: Windows Vista
When I turn on the PC it auto boots into the bios not the operating system. It doesnt matter if i change any settings or leave it as is. If I re-boot it goes straight back to the bios again. I would be greatful for any ideas on solving this little problem so I can get my wifes PC back up and running. Thanks

Right I have tried booting the HD on my pc and it fails to boot too, but if I put it as a slave to my disk I can see the disk and have managed to transfer all the important files off it to a backup device.

I then tried my HD in my wifes machine and I get the same response. Boots straight into the bios. It does the same boot-up sequence each time...

Finds CDROM Device
Finds HD
Boots into bios... STOP.
