batch files not executing

My .Bat files are no longer executing. With DblClick they open up in NotePad and the Icon for these files has changed to that of Notepad and show as Type "BAT file".
How do I get them to work? They are simple batch jobs I start two firefox tabs..

I would bet you have "hide extensions" checked [it is by default] and these really have the .txt or .doc extension not bat. This explains why they are getting the notepad icon.

change the extension to bat will solve your issue.
