At home I have no choice but to use dial-up internet because I live rurally, however, when I go to town, is there a way for me to use the wireless internet on this computer (Dell laptop) if I were to go to a cafe or something like that? Are there free services for this or would I have to suscribe to an ISP? I know my computer has the capapbility, but I don't know how to use it....I've never used wireless internet before.
Any help appreciated.

yes you can connect to a cafe truck stop, campground, etc.
no need for isp.
however, if your wanting e-mail you'll need hotmail or such.

The internet at a cafe truck stop, campground, etc. are known as HotSpot.
HotSpot internet generally are very unsecured and vulnerable if you do not exercise precautions. Google is full of pages of links dealing with hotspot. Go googling for it.

Bug your phone provider to death like i did until they get you high speed. I live rualy also and i called like everyweek. It aucually worked. As forthe wireless at a hotspot it should pick up wireless signal.
Computer 1 Server
Gateway E-2000
Win XP Pro sp1
P4 1.8 Ghz
256 Mb Ram
40 Gig Drive
CDRW
Computer 2 Bedroom
AOpen 400 Mhz
Win 98SE
10 Gig Master
20 Gig Slave

LOL, that's what I had to do to get high speed internet here also -- bug them to death. At first they said they wouldn't have it in for another year, but they ended up having it installed not 4 months after they said that.
