Backup in XP and restor in Vista??

can i restore data that i've backed up from windows XP to windows Vista?. i got a new vista machine and its just a hard job reinstalling all the programs i have in XP into it.

Of course migrating to a new OS is always a hard job but it's the only way - reinstall everything for better OS efficiency. Thereafter copy the data files to the appropriate folder(s). Also make sure the old apps is compatible to work with Vista.

You can use the Easy Transfer mechanism to transfer app settings, but the apps still need to be installed.

saw this app today, advertised in a pc mag, may be useful? http://www.laplink.com/pcmover/ & depends on xp progs being vista compatible.
I use Acronis True Image. You can back up anything you want and restore it with out the prograqm you just need to burn a boot disk. Best program I've used for backups.
