I have noticed that there is no ASPI driver (wnasp32.dll) in Vista and in fact it is mentioned in various forums that ASPI is not compatible with Vista. I am having some difficulty running my Canon scanner in Vista in that although from an operational point of view it works perfectly the scan image on screen and printed has a rainbow effect. It has been suggested that the lack of a system ASPI may be the problem. FrogASPI make a driver which they maintain is compatible with Vista and I am wondering whether I will do any damage if I install it, and will it solve my rainbow problem? Interestingly enough Nero installs its own ASPI driver.

Sabertooth... thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the scanner is a few years old now (D660U) and it works perfectly in XP but I guess Vista being as pernickety about software as it is it was a bit much to hope for that it would work as well in that system. And no... Canon makes no recomendation with regard to Vista and they don't even have an updated driver.

There's one listed at the link below. The main problem is that I cannot validate for the site itself. Use it at your own risk or RIP the scanner.

Good luck :-)

Thank you XP/VistaUser. I am in the process of downloading the driver now. I'll backup the system and give it a go... maybe it's time for a new scanner anyway!
I'll report back on this one

I tried the driver and I must admit that it caused the scanner to operate faultlessly but unhappily it still produces a rainbow picture. Methinks it's time for a new scanner.
Thanks XP/VistaUser.
