I used to use a program called filemon in XP which would give a list off all hard drive activity, including which files were accessed, when, and by which process. Tired to run it in vista and it tells me its been replaced. I eventually found a replacement that would actualyl run on the MS website, called diskmon, but it's useless as it only says how long a given access was and whether it was read or write. Does anyone know if there are any utilities that will run on vista that have that same functionality as filemon?
Thanks

I doubt there are any. After all, Vista is still in its infancy - only two months old - and the software developers/writers are still learning the in-out of the new OS before they can create useful (and trouble-free) utilities.
Revisit the subject matter again at a later time.

For some reasons I now remember that Mark Russinovich wrote Filemon when he ran sysinternals. He's now working for M$ so here is the file you are looking for...

Process monitor - thats the one, thank you. I had filemon but it wouldn't run under Vista, told me I need process monitor, and gave me some link, which was far from direct and I couldn't find it. Just what I was looking for though, thank you

Process Monitor, I see that is a WinZip File.
The Vista install checker, advised to remove Winzip and reinstall, with the proviso it may not work as expected due to compatibility issues. For more info go to the vendor's website.
Did Process Monitor work OK.
