Which is the best freeware antivirus for vista home premium. I dont want to use norton as it makes the system slow? AVG doesnt allow to run its resident shield !! Thanks
Also, try reinstalling AVG. If it still does not work, please post back.

I use Avast antivirus (free for home users) on my Vista pc, the real-time protection works well. I also use the Avast screensaver for a virus scanner whenever I'm not at my computer.

I use Avast on the Vista (x64) side of this machine too & it works great -- no issues.

I'm running AVG 7.5 with firewall and it works fine although scanning incoming and outgoing email and certifying it took some special adjustments.
