so i had to get a new computer.. with Vista. before I had XP with Norton Antivirus & ZoneAlarm firewall. y'all know ZoneAlarm doesn't work with ZoneAlarm.
for the past 2 months I've been using the Norton Antivirus 2007 trial. Seems to be working okay. Offer is almost up, so now I need to "commit" to something.
Questions is... is Norton Antivirus 2007 sufficient enough for 2007. It's just a home computer, one user.
And what about Firewall??? I've heard Vista has one.. is this sufficient? Or is there something else out there that will work with Vista that is comparable to ZoneAlarm.
HELP ME!!!! : )
Julie

Excellent!! Thanks for the info.!!!
However.. I just remembered another problem. Do you know if Norton AntiVirus works with Zone Alarm? I bought it when I had XP and ended up taking it back because Zone Alarm wouldn't work with it. Ended up reinstalling Norton 2005.
What to do.. what to do???

"ZoneAlarm now works with Vista."
========================================
Still NOT with vista 64
(at least that's what it says when you try to install to vista Ultimate 64bit)

so.. what's the consensus for ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7????? Better than Norton???
Since ZoneAlarm won't work with Norton .. I'm thinking it's time to let go of Norton and go for full-protection from ZoneAlarm.
Will this be sufficient????

Honestly, I would use neither. There are folks that would swear by ZA, I'm just not part of that crowd. As far as Symantec -- Norton -- goes, I've read some good stuff about 360, but it's a little too late for me to have a change of heart.
Between the systems here, I use a combination of NOD32, KAV, Comodo & Lavasoft firewall albeit not simulteanously on all the systems. I think I would even suggest "free" alternatives like Avast or AVG first before Norton.
Finally, as of right now, Comodo is yet to finalize a Vista version of its firewall, but the Alpha 3.0.2.5 that's out there is pretty good for a software that's still in test stages .... but take heed & good luck!

I'm still trying to figure it out too. Just like you my trial version of Norton Internet security is set to expire.
I tried the Zone Alarm free firewall. A bit of a pain at first but OK.
Since I still had a few months of Mcafee left on my subscription I thought I would try that. The basic home version has a built in firewall and is slightly cheaper then the Norton version without a firewall. The Norton Internet Security Suite with a firewall is quite a bit more. But it does have some other features which I don't need.
Either way you go take heed if you decide to uninstall your Norton package. Which you should do if you choose another program.
The uninstall did not go well for me. It left me with a corrupted Media Center on my Vista machine even though I followed the advice to use the Norton uninstaller tool.
After amany combinations of System Restore and reinstall I suggest the following.
Go into Nortons settings and turn off everything first. Most importantly the Live Update.
Do not use Nortons uninstaller tool on Vista. Use Vistas "Programs and Features" (add/remove programs) instead.
Uninstall Norton not Live Update.
Reboot.
Now uninstall Live Update.I ignored the warning and Live Update uninstalled.
Reboot.On my HP with Vista and Norton preinstalled this is what finally worked for me. After a system restore or 5 and plenty of Norton reinstalls before I figured it out.
HP's solution to the Media Center "SymAddln" error (which I have determined to be Norton related) was reinstall Vista. Which of course would have reinstalled Norton too. Not to mention the skipped frames on DVD playback issues.
It's good you are asking. It pays to do your homework. I spent 12 hours on this. I hope I'm out of the loop now.
Good luck;
RandyL

Thanks everyone for your advice & info!!! I think I'm going to just do the ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite.. seems like the best option!
