I have a clean install of Vista Business on a newly built machine. Everything works fine with the exception of some programs that want administrative rights. This should be simple to fix, so under the compatibility tab, I checked run with administrator privilages. Now when I run the program as a user, I get a prompt asking for the admin username and password. I don't want to give this information to the user, but I also don't want to give them administrative rights. Does anyone know if there is a way to do that? I have played around with secpol.msc a little, but to no resolve.

try giving the user full rights for the whole folder/directory the file is located in.
also, check that the program being used does not have dependencies in other files that are in folders the user does not have full access. example: file under c:\1 also uses files under c:\2.
this works ok with windows 2000 but i am not sure with windows vista.

Here is what I have tried since my original post. I have given the standard user administrative rights to the directory and all its subfiles and folders. But as rousou mentioned, there may be other files elsewhere on the machine that the user would need admin access to. Nevertheless, giving the user admin rights to the directory did not resolve the issue. I looked at your post XpUser and the items discussed in the blog are the same as secpol.msc.
The option that would correct this is:
User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users.
If I could set that to Elevate without prompting, I would be in business. I suppose it's possible that they changed something, but I swear I was able to get it to work in Vista RC1.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
