Doing research lead me to believe it's W32/Swen@MM or a variant. None of my spyware or adware programs work even when I look for the icon in the program files for them.
When I click on icons on my desktop, it asks me what I want to use to open the file so I cannot install Nortons or McAfee to remove this. I tried using FixSwen but no luck. I cannot get to task manager except using Ctrl+Alt+Delete but the Run/msconfig doesn't work either. everything says, "application not found".
I looked online at a virus database and they had no information on the swen worm on Vista.
Any idea's on how to remove this either with a program that doesn't use an EXE. file or even doing it manually? Any help is greatly appreciated.I'm just now learning about computers so be patient please.

sassydoodle, The link below has fixes for XP but I don't know if they'd work for Vista.

I tried running them in safe mode too before I posted but that didn't work either.
I used the http://windowsxp.mvps.org/exefile.htm and it's done something but didn't fix it.
Still getting the same messages..I'm just now learning about computers so be patient please.

sassydoodle,
The site you used is exclusively for Windows XP only. The site you should be using is HERE. BTW both sites are hosted by the same author.
If it doesn't work I am afraid the worm may have incapacitated your Vista.

I don't know how to fix it but here is a very good way to back all important info on you hard drive
1. download "puppy Linux" at the following
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/puppy-2.14-seamonkey-fulldrivers.iso2. It comes in .iso format, burn that to a CD, it is a Live Boot Disk so put it in you CD tray and restart you computer into Puppy Linux.
3. Press "Enter" at the gibberish screen
Press enter at the keyboard screen, it's pre-set to the default which if you speak English it is your keyboard. Then at the next screen select "Xvesa" video settings works with all video hardware.4. Now exit out of all windows-ish boxes and heres your desktop.
5. Click once on the Drives icon (looks like a flash drive).
6. Then click the pink mount button next to your Hard drive.
7. wallah, you see you all you files on you Hard drive. Now minimize that repeat steps 5 and 6, only on step 6 mount you backup drive, CD, USB. (if you only have on CD drive and plan to backup from that it "IS OKAY" to eject this disk if you have 512MB of ram because Linux loaded itself into ram and runs from that)
8. now that you have all important data backed up you snap that disk on "WINDOWS VISTA" you have in half and reinstall "WINDOWS XP SP2" it is the only fully functional WINDOWS ever made, so stick to it like Glue. Or any Linux Distros, UNIX's or Mac. Its all good.
9. Linux, I recommend Ubuntu 7.04, it works for me and have found no bugs so far. UNIX (I know Mac OS X is UNIX but whatever), i recommend Solaris 10 www.sun.com/solaris.

Sorry, I forgot to include. If you don;t know how to burn an .iso format just go to www.poweriso.com download the trial and open it in that and click the burning disk icon.
