Acer laptop - DVD drive not working

Having some problems with an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop - the DVD/CD drive does not work. It's detected in device manager, but has a yellow exclamation point next to it, and says:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
It used to work, but even uninstalling and reinstalling the device has no effect. The found hardware wizard comes up, but says the install failed. I can't find any drivers on the Acer website for the drive - any ideas?

Check safemode for multiple or bogus device listings.

Hi, thanks for the replies.
It's actually my girlfriends laptop and I've only started looking at it recently, so I have no idea if Roxio was installed. There was however a "Performance issue" listed under the "Performance Information and Tools" in Control Panel. It said that NTI CD & DVD Maker was causing Windows to shut down slowly (and someting sure was cos Vista was taking 20+ minutes on the shut down screen) That no longer seems to be an issue but the drive is not appearing in My Computer and my girlfriend cannot recall when she last used it. I will have a look at that link XPUser, and will also check in safe mode as suggested.
